China to remove tariffs on nearly all goods from Africa as both criticize US trade moves

SUMMARY

China plans to eliminate tariffs on almost all goods from African nations, except for eSwatini. This initiative was announced during a meeting in central China related to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). The new measure expands an earlier policy from 2024 that provided zero-tariff benefits to 33 least-developed African countries. Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized that China aims to “provide more convenience for the least developed countries in Africa to export to China.” Both China and African leaders criticized U.S. trade actions that they believe disrupt global economic stability.
