Peru's Congress votes to remove President Boluarte

Peru's Congress voted to remove President Dina Boluarte due to her government's failure to address a crime wave. Lawmakers convened a late-night session where Boluarte was summoned to defend herself but did not attend. Consequently, 124 votes favored her impeachment for "moral incapacity."

Since Boluarte didn't have a vice president, Congress President Jose Jeri has become the new president. Boluarte, who has been accused of profiting from her role, has approval ratings of just 2 to 4 percent. This political upheaval occurs just six months before the next presidential election, continuing a trend of instability in Peru’s leadership.
