American Airlines plane at Denver Airport evacuated after catching fire
On Saturday, a fire erupted in the landing gear of an American Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 during takeoff from Denver International Airport. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on runway 34L, prompting the safe evacuation of 173 passengers and six crew members via emergency slides.
Smoke was observed billowing from the aircraft’s rear, as reported by witnesses. Emergency responders extinguished the fire, and one passenger was hospitalized with minor injuries. Five others were evaluated at the scene but required no further treatment.
The FAA is investigating the incident, citing a possible landing gear malfunction. American Airlines confirmed a tire-related maintenance issue and removed the aircraft for inspection.
Passengers were transported to the terminal by bus and will continue to Miami on a replacement flight. The incident caused 87 flight delays and a brief ground stop at the airport. Operations later resumed normally.
This marks the second American Airlines incident at Denver this year, following an engine-related diversion in March. The investigation into the landing gear fire continues to ensure safety compliance.
