Afghan Taliban and Pakistan claim heavy casualties in new border clashes
Fresh fighting erupted on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border, with both sides blaming each other for initiating clashes. Pakistan's military reported “15-20 Afghan Taliban” casualties, while the Taliban claimed 12 civilians were killed by Pakistani fire. Violence intensified following recent explosions in Afghanistan, which Kabul attributed to Islamabad.
Each side is engaged in a media war, claiming higher enemy losses. Clashes began around 4:00 local time, lasting nearly five hours. Reports include heavy casualties and displacement of local families.
Calls for de-escalation have come from various countries, including China and Russia, amid rising concerns over civilian suffering. Richard Bennett, UN special rapporteur, urged all parties to protect civilians and follow international law.
