US DOJ to prioritize revoking citizenship of naturalized citizens

The U.S. Department of Justice is prioritizing the denaturalization of naturalized citizens charged with crimes, according to a recent memo. This move expands the immigration enforcement efforts initiated during the Trump administration. The DOJ will pursue "civil denaturalization" for serious offenses like "war crimes" and terrorism.

Currently, 53% of the 46.2 million immigrants in the U.S. are naturalized citizens. The DOJ has dramatically increased denaturalization cases since 2017, with reports showing they filed at least 30 cases that year alone.

Concerns about constitutional rights have been raised, with critics arguing this effort violates due process. The DOJ's memo cites "ending antisemitism" as a reason to prioritize denaturalization, highlighting tensions surrounding free speech for immigrants.
