PKK to start disarming in landmark ceremony

The PKK will start its disarmament process in a ceremony on July 11 in northern Iraq. This follows the group's decision to disband two months ago. Turkish and Iraqi authorities will coordinate the disarmament, where collected weapons will be registered and destroyed. President Erdogan plans to deliver a significant address on July 12.

The process comes after multiple meetings facilitated by the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party with jailed PKK leader Abdullah Öcalan. Erdo?an emphasized that this initiative aims to "save Turkey from a half-century-long terror problem.” The PKK is recognized as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the U.S., and the EU.
