Discord will require a face scan or ID for full access next month

SUMMARY

Discord is implementing global age verification starting next month. All accounts will default to a "teen-appropriate experience" unless users verify their age through a bio-metric face scan or submitting their official government ID.

Unverified users can't access age-restricted servers, speak in stage channels, or bypass content moderation filters. To verify, users can choose between facial age estimation or submitting identification. Discord claims that no personal data is retained after verification.

Changes aim to enhance child safety and comply with legal requirements. However, there are concerns, especially following a data breach involving age verification information allegedly "not stored" and "immediately deleted."
