US-backed Israeli company's spyware used to target European journalists

Two European journalists were confirmed to have been hacked using Paragon spyware from an Israeli tech provider. The Citizen Lab reported that Italian journalist Ciro Pellegrino and another unnamed European journalist were targeted. Evidence showed both were hacked by the same Paragon customer.

The findings deepen an ongoing spyware scandal linked mainly to the Italian government. Pellegrino suggested his civil rights have been "trampled upon" and questioned the government's lack of solidarity with affected journalists. New forensic evidence reveals the attacks were executed using sophisticated zero-click methods, indicating a significant breach in cybersecurity.

The Italian government has yet to respond.
