More than three million unemployed in Germany

SUMMARY

In August, Germany's unemployment rate rose to over three million for the first time since 2015, reaching 3.025 million. This increase is up 46,000 from July and 153,000 compared to August 2024. The unemployment rate now stands at 6.4%.

Andrea Nahles, head of the Federal Employment Agency, cited the summer break and the ongoing economic slowdown as reasons for the rise. She had previously warned of increasing unemployment numbers.

The situation marks a significant shift in the job market for Germany.
