MoD tells staff not to discuss secrets in cars amid China spying fears

SUMMARY

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has implemented security measures to prevent eavesdropping risks from Chinese-owned electric cars. Stickers in these vehicles warn military staff against discussing sensitive matters. While there is no evidence of data breaches, former military intelligence officer Colonel Philip Ingram criticized the precautions as “ludicrous.”

The MoD operates a fleet of about 745 electric and 1,400 hybrid vehicles. They are responding to warnings from the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory regarding risks in connected cars. An MoD spokesman assured that measures are in place to protect information.
