EU blocks funds for key Chinese solar energy parts

SUMMARY

The EU has blocked public funding for Chinese solar technology, specifically inverters used in installations, due to security concerns. The European Commission views these imports as one of "the most pressing threats" to its critical infrastructure, effective from November 1.

Commission spokesperson Siobhan McGarry warned that these devices could enable unauthorized access to energy networks, potentially causing countrywide blackouts.

With China controlling over half of the global inverter market, Europe aims to reduce reliance by promoting European and alternative manufacturers. The decision aligns with broader EU efforts to limit funding for Chinese technologies deemed risky.
