France's wireless highway delivers twice the power for heavy vehicles

SUMMARY

France has launched the world’s first wireless charging highway for electric vehicles (EVs), providing continuous power while driving. The system, located on a 0.93-mile stretch of the A10 motorway near Paris, delivers over 200 kW of power. This initiative, called "Charge As You Drive," allows cars, buses, and trucks to be charged dynamically without stopping.

Developed by Electreon and VINCI Autoroutes, it uses coils under the asphalt to transmit energy to vehicles. Oren Ezer, Electreon's CEO, said, "This marks a pivotal moment in the global development of wireless roads." The technology could significantly reduce downtime for electric freight transport.
