Columbia University to pay over $220m in deal with Trump to restore federal funding

SUMMARY

Columbia University will pay over $220 million to the federal government to restore federal funding that was cut for alleged antisemitism issues. The settlement includes a $200 million payment over three years and an additional $21 million for Equal Employment Opportunity Commission investigations. University President Claire Shipman stated, "This agreement marks an important step forward after a period of sustained federal scrutiny."

The deal entails changes to Columbia's student disciplinary process and a commitment to review its Middle East curriculum. Columbia was under scrutiny due to claims of antisemitism during recent campus protests.

The agreement also includes measures to ensure “civil discourse” among students.
