Teaching assistant fired for outburst at Turning Point USA event arrested for threatening to kill Trump

Derek Lopez, a 27-year-old teaching assistant from Illinois State University, was arrested for allegedly threatening to kill President Trump. Authorities reported that Lopez made several violent threats on social media, including a declaration: “I’m gonna kill Donald Trump.” He even shared a video of a man aiming a gun at a graphic of Trump.

Lopez cited the government shutdown as "the perfect time to kill the president," and faces federal charges, potentially leading to five years in prison if convicted.

His arrest follows his dismissal from the university after a viral incident where he flipped a Turning Point USA table on campus. Lopez was previously charged with disorderly conduct and criminal damage.
