Black man stabs Ukrainian refugee to death on Charlotte light rail

A tragic incident involving a Ukrainian refugee occurred on a Charlotte light rail train. Surveillance footage shows 23-year-old Iryna Zarutska boarding the train before being randomly attacked by a man in a red hoodie. He stabbed her multiple times, including in the neck, and she later died at the scene. The attacker, Decarlos Brown, was arrested shortly after.

Zarutska had fled war-torn Ukraine seeking safety in the U.S. Her death has raised concerns over public safety on the transit system, prompting discussions among city council members. Rep. Brenden Jones criticized local policies, stating, "Violent criminals commit crimes with impunity, while families live in fear."
