Cybercriminal used a 'fake phone tower hidden inside a suitcase' to spam text messages

SUMMARY

Kong Ji Chen, a 31-year-old cybercriminal, has been sentenced to 24 weeks in prison for using a fake phone tower hidden in a suitcase to spam commuters on the London Underground. Commuters received messages pretending to be from "Parcel Mail", asking for personal details. Chen was arrested after a suspicious commuter alerted the police about his unusual behavior at Victoria Station.

Police discovered the suitcase contained equipment to send mass texts. Chen pleaded guilty to fraud-related charges. Investigators confirmed 165 reports of the same spam message on the same day.
