UK offers discounts on electric cars to boost demand
SUMMARY
The British government will launch a discount scheme offering up to 3,750 pounds for electric cars priced at 37,000 pounds and below. The initiative, supported by a 650 million pound budget, aims to boost electric vehicle (EV) sales and help meet net-zero emissions targets by 2050.
Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander noted that this grant will enable consumers to save money and support the automotive sector. The new scheme responds to industry demands for EV incentives after a previous program was scrapped in 2022.
Ginny Buckley from Electrifying.com stated that nearly half of electric models will become cheaper due to these incentives. The funding for the grant will be available until the 2028/29 fiscal year.
