Britain endures coldest night for 15 years as temperatures drop below -18C

Britain has recorded its coldest January night in 15 years, with temperatures dropping to -18.7C in Altnaharra, Scotland. This marks the lowest overnight temperature since 2010. Many areas across the UK saw below-freezing temperatures, including -11C in Cumbria and -5C at Heathrow.

The UK faces just a week's worth of gas supplies, with storage levels significantly lower than last year. The UK Health Security Agency has extended its cold-weather health alert across England, predicting a rise in deaths, especially among vulnerable populations.

Meteorologist Zoe Hutin noted cold temperatures will continue into Saturday, but a recovery is expected early next week.
