Supreme Court won't disturb new California congressional map
SUMMARY
California Democrats may gain up to five congressional seats after the Supreme Court declined to block the state’s gerrymandered redistricting.
The court unanimously rejected a request from the California Republican Party and the Trump administration to stop the Proposition 50 map.
In January, a federal panel also ruled against efforts to prevent the map ahead of the midterm elections, with primaries starting in June.
Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic leaders initiated this redistricting following Trump's call for Texas Republicans to redraw their district map.
The Supreme Court had previously allowed Texas's map to stand, indicating support for California's changes as well.
