Thousands of starfish wash up on Fife beach

Thousands of starfish have washed up on Kirkcaldy beach in Fife. The phenomenon was likely caused by strong onshore winds. Fife Coast and Countryside Trust is monitoring the situation and plans to let tides reclaim the dead starfish.

Residents expressed shock at the event. Helen Clark noted, "I've never seen anything like it," while her son Andrew wondered about the cause of their deaths.

Experts explain that rough seas can dislodge starfish, leading them to "starball," making them vulnerable to strandings. This behavior can occur during stormy weather, particularly around full moons.
