Russian general killed by car bomb in Moscow, officials say

A Russian general, Lt Gen Fanil Sarvarov, was killed in a car bombing in Moscow. He was the head of the armed forces' operational training department and died after an explosive device detonated under his vehicle. Russian authorities are investigating the incident, with a possible link to Ukrainian intelligence, though Ukraine has not commented.

Sarvarov succumbed to his injuries in a hospital. This incident continues a pattern of attacks targeting Russian military officials since the invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that President Vladimir Putin was informed of Sarvarov's death.
