U.S. government report links WHO 'safe' fluoride levels to lower IQ in kids

SUMMARY

A U.S. government report has revealed that fluoride levels in drinking water at twice the recommended U.S. limit (but within the 'safe limit' set by the World Health Organization) may be linked to lower IQs in children. This significant finding comes from the National Toxicology Program, reviewing studies from various countries, and marks the first federal acknowledgment of this potential risk.

While fluoride is known to help prevent cavities, the report raises concerns about high fluoride exposure. Ashley Malin, a researcher, emphasized the report's importance, calling it rigorously conducted.

The WHO considers 1.5 milligrams of fluoride per liter as a safe limit. However, the report indicates that about 1.9 million people in the U.S. may exceed this level, necessitating discussions on protection measures. Further research is needed on the effects of lower fluoride levels and its impact on adults.
