Hundreds of US students quarantined amid measles outbreaks

Measles outbreaks are forcing hundreds of unvaccinated U.S. students into quarantine. In South Carolina, 153 children are quarantined due to an outbreak, while Minnesota reports 118 students also affected. Quarantined students will engage in remote learning for at least 21 days.

Experts warn this trend may continue as vaccination rates fall. Current data shows K-12 measles vaccination rates are below the 95% threshold needed for herd immunity.

The CDC confirmed 1,563 measles cases in 2025, primarily due to domestic outbreaks. Without increased vaccination, the U.S. risks losing its measles elimination status.
