US Naval Academy locked down due to threat reports

The U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis locked down Thursday after reports of suspicious activity on campus. Naval Security Forces, clearing a building, injured a midshipman, who was medevaced to a hospital and remains stable, per Congresswoman Elfreth.

No active shooter was confirmed, yet the vague threat reports sparked panic. “The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution,” a Naval Academy spokesperson said, calling it a “developing situation.”

Police swarmed Bancroft Hall, housing 1,600 midshipmen, amplifying fear. Annapolis resident Anne Lillefloren described the chaos: “Absolutely terrifying… you don’t know what the truth is.”

The governor’s office later stated no credible threat existed. Elfreth emphasized, “Our Midshipmen… deserve to feel safe on campus.”
