US Naval Academy locked down due to threat reports

No active shooter was confirmed, yet the vague threat reports sparked panic. “The base is on lockdown out of an abundance of caution,” a Naval Academy spokesperson said, calling it a “developing situation.”

Police swarmed Bancroft Hall, housing 1,600 midshipmen, amplifying fear. Annapolis resident Anne Lillefloren described the chaos: “Absolutely terrifying… you don’t know what the truth is.”

The governor’s office later stated no credible threat existed. Elfreth emphasized, “Our Midshipmen… deserve to feel safe on campus.”
