Net zero targets will force Britons to change how they live their lives

Labour's energy committee chairman, Bill Esterson, stated that net zero targets will require significant lifestyle changes for Britons to meet emissions goals set for 2030.

His comments conflict with Sir Keir Starmer's claim that achieving these targets without telling people “how to behave.” Esterson emphasized, "Whenever there is a big change, people have to change their lives."

The Labour Party aims to transition to clean power by 2030, targeting a 68% reduction in carbon emissions from 1990 levels. A climate committee head warned that this may involve households replacing gas boilers with heat pumps and increasing electric vehicle usage. Critics suggest that necessary adjustments might contradict the government's assurances that no sacrifices will be needed.
