Germany Christmas market attack suspect charged with murder

A 50-year-old Saudi doctor has been charged with murder and 338 counts of attempted murder for ramming a car into a Christmas market in Magdeburg on December 20. The attack killed five women and a nine-year-old boy. Prosecutors allege he planned the attack for weeks and aimed to kill as many as possible.

He reportedly acted out of "dissatisfaction and frustration" related to a civil dispute. Despite not fitting the typical extremist profile, he had been flagged as a potential threat. The man, has been called Taleb A but his official name as not been released due to Germany's privacy laws came to Germany in 2006.

The court in Magdeburg will decide whether to send the case to trial,with a life sentence possible for murder.
