Peanut the Squirrel has been euthanized after being seized from NY home

Peanut the Squirrel, a social media star with 534,000 Instagram followers, was euthanized after being confiscated from his Pine City, New York, home. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reported that Peanut was seized, along with a raccoon, for rabies testing following a bite incident. Mark Longo, Peanut's owner, expressed his distress, saying, "It has been a terrible nightmare for me."

Longo had raised Peanut for seven years after rescuing him as a baby. Following the seizure, a petition and a GoFundMe were launched to help return Peanut to Longo, gathering thousands of signatures and donations.
