Anthropic wins lawsuit over training AI on books without authors' permission

A federal judge has ruled in favor of Anthropic, allowing the company to train its AI models on published books without authors' permission. This is a significant development as it sets a precedent that may favor tech companies regarding fair use claims.

Judge Alsup emphasized, “That Anthropic later bought a copy of a book it earlier stole off the internet will not absolve it of liability for theft."
