US to remove mercury from flu injections after RFK Jr. vaccine panel vote

SUMMARY

The U.S. Health and Human Services will remove thimerosal, a mercury-based preservative, from flu vaccines, despite no evidence of harm from it. This move eliminates a vaccine choice for Americans and caters to anti-vaccine sentiments.

HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. endorsed a recommendation to exclude thimerosal-containing vaccines from a key government panel. This decision affects about 4% to 5% of the flu vaccine supply.

Health experts warn this could discourage vaccination.

Kennedy stated, "After more than two decades of delay, this action fulfills a long-overdue promise to protect our most vulnerable populations from unnecessary mercury exposure."

Over 40 studies claim to have found no link between thimerosal and developmental delays.
