Active shooter standoff: Sniper in Idaho kills 2 firefighters, injures 3rd in ambush
SUMMARY
An arson and sniper killed two firefighters and injured a third after intentionally setting a wildfire to lure first responders to the scene for an ambush. The attack occurred at Canfield Mountain around 2 p.m, in Idaho’s Kootenai County.
Authorities later found a deceased man with a firearm nearby, lifting a shelter-in-place order for locals. Sheriff Bob Norris reported active sniper fire while first responders faced the situation.
Idaho Governor Brad Little condemned the assault, calling it "heinous," and urged prayers for the victims. The FBI and local law enforcement remained on-site, monitoring the dangerous situation. Firefighters are advised to stay clear as operations continue, and a no-fly zone has been established.
