Chinese expedition team sets sail on seven-month journey to Antarctica

SUMMARY

China's 42nd Antarctic expedition team launched from Shanghai with over 500 members from more than 10 countries. They will conduct a seven-month scientific mission focused on understanding and protecting Antarctica. Key tasks include enhancing infrastructure at the newly operational Qinling Station. Researchers will investigate climate change's impact on marine ecosystems around the Antarctic Peninsula and other key areas. The team will also perform scientific drilling in ice-covered lakes and test new technologies. They are expected to return to China in May.
