UK and France to sign declaration to step up nuclear military 'coordination'

SUMMARY

The UK and France are increasing their defense collaboration by ordering more Storm Shadow missiles. Known as SCALP in France, this long-range missile has been supplied to Ukraine, enabling strikes deep into Russian territory.

During French President Emmanuel Macron's recent UK visit, both nations agreed on a timeline for developing a successor to the Storm Shadow.

This collaboration is expected to sustain over 1,300 jobs in the UK. They also aim to enhance nuclear ties and military capabilities.

On day three of Macron’s UK visit, he and Starmer will agree to enhance nuclear cooperation. The UK and France, Europe’s only nuclear powers, will declare their independent nuclear deterrents can be "coordinated" to deter threats like Russia. This follows Trump’s push for European NATO members to take a larger alliance role.

Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted, “The threats we face are multiplying.”
