Cuomo received 36% of the votes and congratulated Mamdani, stating, "Tonight is his night. He deserved it. He won."

The general election is set for November 4, where Mamdani will face incumbent mayor Eric Adams, who is running as an independent. The Republican candidate is Curtis Sliwa.

New York City employs ranked-choice voting, which allows for multiple rounds until a candidate secures a majority.
