Alina Habba resigns as acting US attorney for New Jersey

SUMMARY

Alina Habba, former personal lawyer for Donald Trump, resigned as the acting US attorney for New Jersey after an appeals court ruled she was unlawfully appointed.

In her resignation statement, she mentioned her desire to maintain “the stability and integrity of the office.” She emphasized that compliance does not equal surrender, stating, “This decision will not weaken the Justice Department and it will not weaken me.”

The ruling against her appointment also affects three other US attorneys found similarly unlawful. This has raised concerns among prosecutors regarding ongoing cases in New Jersey and elsewhere.

Habba is the first of Trump's appointed attorneys to resign following such rulings.
