UK police to send up drones in response to emergency calls
Autonomous drones will soon respond to 999 calls in London as part of a trial by Scotland Yard. Equipped with high-definition cameras, these drones can reach crime scenes within two minutes, offering a more cost-effective option than helicopters.
They will assist in various emergency situations and provide aerial perspectives during major incidents.
Drones will launch autonomously from building rooftops and be controlled by an officer upon arrival for footage collection. The trial, named drone as first responder (DFR), is currently taking place in Islington and will expand to other areas soon.
Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor noted that drones will help provide precise information in chaotic situations. Superintendent Taryn Evans highlighted the pilot as an opportunity to enhance police responses and community safety.
