After China, Apple also removing VPN apps from App Store in India

Apple has begun removing VPN apps from its App Store in India, following a new "anti-privacy law" that prohibits anonymous use of VPNs. The law requires VPN providers to maintain detailed user records. This decision echoes Apple's actions in China, where hundreds of VPN apps were taken down under government pressure.

According to a TechCrunch report, at least half a dozen VPN apps, including Cloudflare’s 1.1.1.1, have already been removed from the Indian platforms. As the Indian government identifies non-compliant apps individually, many more are expected to follow. Apple is caught between regulatory compliance and its stated privacy values.
