Footnotes, TikTok's crowdsourced fact-checks, launches in the US
TikTok has launched Footnotes, a crowdsourced fact-checking feature in the U.S. This system allows users to write and rate notes on videos, providing context and help combat misinformation. Users can view notes rated as helpful and are encouraged to contribute their own input.
The initiative builds on a pilot program announced in April, with nearly 80,000 U.S. users qualifying as contributors. Footnotes employs a bridging algorithm to find consensus among diverse opinions.
TikTok maintains its existing Global Fact-checking Program and collaborates with over 20 accredited fact-checking organizations globally.
TikTok also launched more safety features to help creators feel protected including Creator Care Mode,to help filter out offensive and unwanted comments and Content Check Lite, to allow creators to pre-check whether their content is suitable for the For you feed before posting.
