FDA approves another generic abortion pill

The FDA has approved a new generic version of the abortion pill mifepristone, which has sparked backlash from anti-abortion groups and conservative politicians. The drug, made by Evita Solutions, is permitted to terminate pregnancies up to 10 weeks and follows the initial approval of mifepristone in 2000.

Critics, including Republican Senator Josh Hawley, expressed concerns about the approval process and leadership at the FDA. Abortion access remains contentious, with various state laws imposing restrictions. Mifepristone is often used with another drug, misoprostol, which is involved in about two-thirds of U.S. abortions.
