Over 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese recalled for potential metal contamination

Great Lakes Cheese Co. has recalled over 1.5 million bags of shredded cheese due to potential metal contamination. The U.S. FDA reported this recall on December 3. The affected products include mozzarella and Italian-style cheeses sold at stores like Walmart, Publix, and Aldi across 31 states and Puerto Rico.

Retailers have removed the contaminated items, which could cause "temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences." The recall is classified as "Class I" by the FDA. All items have sell-by dates from January to March 2026.
