Teenage shooter of Colombian presidential hopeful sentenced to seven years

SUMMARY

A 15-year-old shooter who attacked Colombian presidential candidate Miguel Uribe has been sentenced to seven years in juvenile detention. The right-wing politician was shot in the head during a campaign event in June and died on August 11 after multiple surgeries.

The teen was charged with attempted murder rather than homicide due to legal restrictions involving minors. Videos of the June attack show Uribe being shot three times before collapsing.

Five other adults have been arrested and charged with aggravated homicide related to the incident, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
