Trump and Starmer sign 'groundbreaking' billion-dollar UK-US tech prosperity deal

SUMMARY

Trump and Starmer signed a $42 billion U.S.-UK Tech Prosperity Deal, with Microsoft leading investments from BlackRock, Nvidia, OpenAI, Oracle, Amazon, and CoreWeave. The deal targets AI for healthcare, quantum computing, and nuclear energy. Starmer called it “the biggest investment package” in UK history, expecting 15,000 jobs.

Microsoft’s $30 billion will enhance UK data centers and research labs. Nvidia, OpenAI, and others will fund the UK’s largest supercomputer with Nscale. Twelve advanced nuclear reactors will be built in northeast England, boosting energy security.

Trump emphasized “deregulation and innovation” in quantum computing, 6G, and nuclear energy. Starmer noted £150 billion ($204 billion) in U.S. investments, including £90 billion from Blackstone over a decade.

The deal cements U.S. AI firms’ dominance in the UK amid a global tech race. Trump praised the “unbreakable bond” between the nations, stating, “The United States and the United Kingdom have done more good on this planet than any two nations in human history.”

Starmer highlighted the deal’s economic impact, building on a prior trade agreement eliminating tariffs on steel and aluminum, fast-tracking U.S. exports.
