High-THC cannabis linked to psychosis and addiction

SUMMARY

A systematic review of nearly 100 studies found that high-THC cannabis is linked to negative mental health outcomes, including psychosis, schizophrenia, and cannabis use disorder. The review highlighted that higher concentrations of THC increase risks, emphasizing the need for stronger research to inform healthcare providers.

While some studies suggested potential benefits for anxiety and depression, results were inconsistent. “High-concentration THC products are associated with unfavorable mental health outcomes,” particularly for psychosis and cannabis use disorder. The findings were published in the Annals of Internal Medicine and reinforced existing concerns about high-potency cannabis use.
