U.S. deploys THAAD missile defense system and 100 troops to Israel

The U.S. is sending an advanced missile defense system, THAAD, to Israel along with about 100 troops to operate it. This deployment follows Iran launching around 200 missiles at Israel earlier this month. Defense Secretary Lloyd J. Austin III stated that THAAD will enhance Israel’s air defense capabilities.

“This action underscores the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel,” said the Pentagon. U.S. military adjustments aim to protect Israel and Americans from Iranian threats.

The arrival timeline for the system and troops remains unclear, while Israeli forces continue to target Hezbollah positions in Lebanon.
