Dutch citizens now carry out arbitrary checks at the German border

In the Netherlands, citizens have begun independently conducting vehicle checks at the German border to halt migrant crossings. This action follows a breakdown in government discussions regarding tougher asylum policies.

David van Weel, the interim Minister of Migration, urged the public not to take the law into their own hands, highlighting the need for stricter asylum laws and better border controls.

Geert Wilders, a right-wing populist, praised the citizen initiative and called for military involvement at the borders.

Authorities warned that such actions could create dangerous situations on the roads and that only police have the right to stop vehicles.
