Eric Adams drops out of the New York city mayoral race

New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced he is abandoning his third-party re-election bid, citing "constant media speculation" and funding issues as major obstacles. His decision aims to consolidate support for former Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is also running against Democratic nominee Zohran Mamdani.

Despite his name remaining on the ballot, Adams has consistently polled in fourth place. Polls indicate that Mamdani holds a significant lead over Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa.

President Trump previously suggested that eliminating two candidates might enhance the chances of defeating Mamdani, whom he characterized as a "communist." Adams was elected as a Democrat in 2021 but shifted to an independent run after facing legal challenges.
