Dockworkers suspend strike after reaching tentative deal until Jan. 15

SUMMARY

U.S. dockworkers represented by the International Longshoremen's Association have reached a tentative deal to suspend their strike until January 15, allowing negotiations for a new contract. The strike had previously shut down 14 ports along the East and Gulf Coasts since Tuesday.

The agreement includes a 61.5% wage increase over six years and an extension of the Master Contract until January 2025. Scott Cowan, ILA Local 333 President, highlighted concerns about automation, stating workers need protection "from automation and other issues that we need resolved."
