Jaguar Land Rover CEO Mardell to step down

SUMMARY

Jaguar Land Rover CEO Adrian Mardell will retire after over 30 years with the company, having led as CEO for the past three years. Mardell joined JLR in 1990 and became CEO in November 2022. Mardell spearheaded a major brand transformation in the automotive industry with the debut of the Jaguar Type 00 concept car, marking the company's shift to an all-electric vehicle lineup. As Jaguar sought to modernize and move away from its traditional heritage, the brand faced significant criticism, with some accusing it of adopting overly progressive ideals and "going woke".

Under his leadership, JLR achieved its highest profit in a decade and eliminated £5 billion in debt. The U.S. remains a crucial market for JLR, particularly for its Range Rover and Defender models, despite facing tariffs on exports. The automaker, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, will announce his successor soon.
