Knife attack on US citizen in Dresden tram: suspect free again

A 21-year-old American was seriously injured on a Dresden tram after intervening to protect women being harassed by a group of men early Sunday. The assault occurred when the American was attacked with a knife. A Syrian citizen, Majd A. (21), was arrested nearby but is not believed to be the stabber. He allegedly assaulted the victim with punches before fleeing on a rental scooter.

The police confirmed that the victim sustained multiple facial cuts but is not in life-threatening danger. After assessing the situation, prosecutors released Majd A., citing insufficient grounds for detention. Police are still searching for the actual knife attacker, who remains at large. Witnesses are being sought to aid the investigation.
