Pakistan slams climate 'injustice' as deadly floods hit country again

SUMMARY

Pakistan's climate change minister has criticized the "crisis of injustice" in funding amid heavy rains and flash floods that have killed at least 32 people this monsoon season.

The Climate Rate Index ranked Pakistan as the most affected country by climate change. In 2022, flooding impacted 33 million people, costing $14.8 billion in damages.

Malik stated, “This lopsided allocation of green funding…I look at it as a moral gap.” Pakistan requires $40 to $50 billion annually for climate challenges, yet receives minimal international aid compared to major polluters.

Amnesty International reported that the healthcare system is failing vulnerable populations amid climate-related extreme weather.
