China files ITU paperwork for megaconstellations totaling nearly 200,000 satellites

SUMMARY

China has filed paperwork with the International Telecommunication Union for two large satellite networks, CTC-1 and CTC-2, each consisting of 96,714 satellites. These filings represent one of the largest constellations proposed, indicating China's strategy to secure orbital and spectrum resources for future megaconstellations.

While the filings are early-stage and not yet authorized for satellite deployment, they signify China's intent to establish a strong position amidst competition from Western projects like SpaceX's Starlink. China is also expanding its capabilities with additional planned constellations linked to its Guowang project.
